What would be the best procedure to proof RGB files intended for an RGB
device (in this case back-lit trans. "film") on a CMYK device? Obviously
one would want to preserve as closely as possible the original colors in
the RGB file. Is there such a thing as Wide CMYK? What would be the ideal
CMYK profile to seperate the RGB? We need to proof out on a IRIS 2PRINT to
give the printer some idea of what we are giving them.
Unless one of the apps or RIPs will not accept it, it should be the
same workflow as with a CMYK simulation.
Image Source->simulated RGB ->proofer (Iris)
In Photoshop or a color server this should not be a problem.
Unfortunately large chunks of the world still think CMYK is the only
final device (including inDesign which only lets you select a CMYK
profile for the "separations" stage - this in apparent contradiction
with the idea that you can make a huge page size and that could go
out to an Inkjet or Labda in RGB mode)
