I've been lurking on this list for a couple of months in the hope of
seeing and answer to my problem but to no avail.
I print photos on my Epson SP-790. Most of the photos originate on a
different machine (Acorn Risc OS) which takes input from my Nikon Coolscan
3 scanner. The Acorn has no colorsync type capabilities. I do most of my
processing on the Acorn (can't afford Photoshop!), convert everything to
PDFs and then print from my iBook. This worked fine and produced excellent
results under Mac OS 9.1. I use Epson Premium Photo Glossy paper.
Under Mac OS X (various versions, currently 10.1.3) the results are dire.
Absolutely dire. Colours are washed out and with a pronounced colour cast
(cyan more or less I think). Nothing I do with ColorSync profiles makes
any difference at all. The results always look exactly the same regardless
of which profiles I set up and from whichever application I print.
If I use the ColorSync utility there is no printer device registered.
Should there be? There are no Epson profiles listed under System
preferences either unless I copy those from OS 9.1. Even when I do this
the results don't change one jot.
I can get /reasonable/ results under OS X using the printer driver's own
colour controls (with a bit of fiddling) but they're still not as good as
I used to get under OS 9.1 with ColorSync.
I'm fed up with running Classic every time I want to print a photo. Does
anyone know just how /do/ I get good results from the printer under OS X?
It's driving me crazy apart from anything else!
Help!
