3. ICColor 200 + 300.
This one's new, and can be purchased with EyeOne Monitor for CRT + LCD
profiles, and can handle automated strip reading of targets.
Hmm...I thought the manual was on the web.
The iCColor is able to take density readings and spectrophotometric
readings. For spectrophotometric readings only reflection is
supported, but not transmission and not emission. As an autoscanning
X-Y instrument I don't see how such an instrument with its necessary
mounting and transport system for the measuring head could support
emission measurements on monitors.
The iCColor and the Eye-One Pro largely replace the Spectrolino /
SpectroScan in functionality. The iCColor and the SpectroScan are
alike in that they both are X-Y scanning systems. The iCColor is not
able to take readings that span two patches the way you can with a
strip reader which is also true of the SpectroScan. The iCColor is
not able to launch a measurement without a prior automatic white
calibration, and the white calibration target cannot be switched by
accident as it is built into the instrument. Finally, the media exits
at the front and not at the back which means the iCColor has a very
small desktop footprint.
But, how do I use it as a spot reader ?
Do I have to be able to fit the original into the unit ?
The manual explains that you advance the patch to align with the
entry to the feeder slot by dialling the cursor. The machine then
automatically pulls the target in and takes the reading. This was a
practical feature to have added, but it doesn't replace an Eye-One
Pro for process control, for instance. But for the odd spot reading
it's OK.
2. Spectrolino with Spectroscan.
Can be used hand held, CRT + LCD monitor support, optional UV filter,
automated strip reading with Spectroscan, and can also be used hand held for
spot readings.
This seems to be the standard, and you can set it and walk away !
Sure, you can walk away from it easy enough. You sort of have to as
it's not really in the luggable category whereas the Eye-One Pro and
the iCColor are compacts -:).
Hope this helps.
