Well you didn't do it the way I described at all :) You embedded SWOP
then changed to SWOP. That won't make a difference. Go embed Generic CMYK
in an image, make sure Default Source Profile is set to SWOP; *THEN*
place the image. It will appear on screen as SWOP, instead of what's
embedded which is Generic CMYK. If you manually change the profile from
"embedded" to Generic CMYK you will see a major on-screen shift occur
even though the embedded profile and manually selected profile are the
same.
I've already done this on a number of machines, others have reproduced
this as well, and Quark has confirmed it for me. QuarkXPress CMS in
version 4 totally ignores embedded profiles. It says it's using them, but
it's not. It uses the Default Source Profile instead.
