I've been playing around with the demo and am very impressed with the
feature set of this product from a productivity standpoint. A question for
those of you with real color experience with this product and Epson
printers... It seems that ImagePrint still treats all Epson printers as RGB
devices, correct? Any of their canned profiles (Epson printers) that I've
looked at appear to be RGB profiles. I assume then that Epson printers
still need to be profiled as RGB devices when used with ImagePrint. While
ImagePrint seems to have a useful ink limiting feature that should help with
profiling unusual ink/paper combos, it would appear that you still have no
real control over black generation, correct?
Much of my work contains gray gradients (I have a huge gray cyc in my
studio). Since moving away from Epson Inks, I've encountered a great deal
of trouble coming up with a profile that prints a grey ramp without a really
noticeable color shift somewhere along the way...usually nearing the darkest
tones. For most typical images these profiles produce nice prints. A print
of the PhotoDisk test image will look pretty good. But let me shoot
something where a graduated neutral background is a large element in the
photo (or a group photo of guys in dark suits) and the results are often
disappointing compared to what I could achieve with stock Epson dye based
inks in a 12xx printer. It would seem that a profile that uses a little
more black ink and a little less color in the shadows would do the trick but
I can't figure out how to get there. Any ideas appreciated.
