Hello.
I am assisting a photographer that rented a Nikon D100 & a D1X. We
are shooting JPEGs & chose Adobe RGB as the working space in the
cameras. I will eventually convince this Photographer not to use
JPEG, but that will take time. We have 2 iBooks; one running OS X
10.2.3 & the other was 10.2.4 but now 10.2.5. We have Photoshop
7.0.1. There is also a QuickSilver running 10.2.5.
I did much searching around the Yahoo! Groups & got bits & pieces of
information but I could not get the whole picture. This crucial link
at Nikon USA is dead:
http://www.nikonusa.com/usa_firmware_upgrades/home.jsp
When I download using NikonView 5 and 6 the profile is not embedded
correctly, so Photoshop throws up the Missing Profile dialogue box.
Ignore EXIF Plug-In doesn't do me a whole lot of good either because
we have over 10,000 images. I wrote an Action for Opening the files
then Assigning the profiles, but on the Close event on these Nikon
JPEGs always results in a JPEG Options dialogue, requiring user input.
I seek two solutions, one short term & one long term.
1.) Is there a way of automating the task or are these Nikon JPEGs
going to foil me? That means dismissing the JPEG Options dialogue box
each time.
2.) Does the firmware update for the cameras fix the way the
profiles are embedded?
The newest iBook (running 10.2.3) and the and the QuickSilver are
having problems with the embedded profile. The old iBook is not and I
can't figure out why. The files open in Photoshop perfectly using the
<Nikon Adobe RGB 4.0.0.3000> profile, just like scans from my LS-8000
when I use that space. I match every Color Management thing I can
find inside and outside of Nikon View 6 and it will not work on the
other 2 Macs. Fortunately I discovered this not too late in the game
and did much downloading with the slow iBook but I do still have a
couple thousand images to fix.
