Dot gain is not a fraction expression of the original dot. I used to
think
that, a long time ago. Now, I know that if I send 50% Cyan from Adobe
Illustrator of Photoshop, to the press, that 50% dot will grow
(however it
choose to do that) to a 74% dot, on coated glossy paper on sheeted
press.
---
See -
I have never seen a 50% dot go to 70% on gloss on my presses.
But everyone says I HAVE to have at least 20% gain.
The thing I see -
Is that I get 20% (of the actual dot) gain - across the board.
(well - until over 75%, or so - then less)
My 10 goes to 12
my 30 goes to 36
my 50 goes to 60
-
It changes when I get higher
as my 80 certainly does not go to 96 -
and my 92 is my high dot to keep open at 99.
These presses are not new
and the results are very predictable.
Thanks for the note,
MSD

I usually send a reply to the post and wait around.
I noticed you folks tend to send to the post and the writer.
Do you take the discussion off the post then ( as I have done - for
speed sake)
or do you continue to reply to both ( and cc the post).
