I have been running into a problem with pc's running Win XP, and yes I am
aware that there has been many comments on this forum on the problems of CM
on XP. But this is one that I have not seen mentioned before.
I profiled some machines using a Eye one monitor and set the gamma settings
to use the Mac default setting ie 1.8 since we are in the newspaper
printing side and using warm white 5000 k. I had the possibility of
comparing a mac running classic and profiled 10 minutes earlier with the
same eye1 and the pc. The result was very satisfiying and I thought that
all was good. But after the computer went to sleep later and also was
rebooted and relogged into, yes I did try it a couple of times the gamma
value must have jumped up to 2.2 a since the result was considerably darker
and my conclusion was that the default gamma was kicked back somehow to 2.2
rather then the 1.8 I told eye1 to use. The result ofcourse also is that I
had no change when I profiled to a windows standard but then the display
was to dark compared with the mac setup. Does anybody know how to change
the default of XP to my 1.8 and get it to stay there. I did get the monitor
driver from the manufacturer but this gave me no option to do this and
thereby overturn the operating system settings, I did also through out the
Gamma loader from Adobe that gets installed with photoshop, this is
something I am used to do when creating profiles on the pc's but I am now
thingking that this might be a way of turing this back and maybe give me
some controll over the gamma setting.
Please anybody out there who can give me some healthy advice on my very
frustrating problem.
