Apologies in advance for some pretty basic questions to follow...
(relatively new to this list... 6 months)
We produce 4 color books and calendars, and although we traditionally dealt
primarily with color transparencies of all formats, the percentage of
digital submissions from hundreds of photographers and stock agencies is
increasing monthly (currently at about 50%). We're about to set up an
in-house proofing system, of sorts, so that we can not only preview the
submissions accurately but also output an inkjet print that can be sent to
the printer (in the Orient) for a close approximation of what we're hoping
to see from their proofs. We'll continue to let the sep-house do the CMYK
conversions until we have that degree of expertise in-house, which we don't
at present. We are not color scientists ... we are primarily book and
calendar publishers, so ease of use and getting our final printed pieces
very close is fine.
I'm looking at the Epson 7600, since it can serve for this purpose as well
as some of the larger format printing that we need (presentations, two-page
spreads, etc). I'm considering the Eye-One Photo package (with the
profilemaker digital camera module) and would appreciate opinions pro/con.
I can upgrade to their Publish module later when we upgrade our aging
scanner(s) which are currently only used for FPOs. As for a RIP, can
someone point me to a good article on the pros & cons of different RIPs...
Epson's Fiery vs. ImagePrint vs. anyone else's suggestions. We're on MACs
and a WIN2000 network, fwiw.
Many thanks for your collective wisdom!
