Actually have tried and been using for several (almost years now)
BasicColor Display 2.5 is being released as we speak (today). It offers
total DDC support for modern CRTs which support the communication protocal.
Their bundle with the "Squid" is offered at www.integrated-color.com and its
reseller affiliates for $250.00.
The kit includes:
BasicColor Display 2.5 SERIALIZED!!!!!! ((everyone listening??? NO MORE
MATCHPHRASES), darn what can we complain about now?)
Squid USB Instrument
DDC Adapter
And last but not least , tech support.
Now one challenge for all users is to determine if their monitor supports
DDC.
A safe bet for monitors that do are...........
LaCie 22s and 19s three years old or newer(on the B port of your monitor)
Sonys most of the same vintage
Mitsubishi
As for others, like NEC, Hitachi, etc.... It would be a good idea to contact
your local representatives. Or I'm sure this list could be of some
assistance.
As for the "automation" of it? Its awesome. The bundle includes a "DDC
checker" utility to assist in configuring your individual display. It takes
about three minutes to get thru it the first time.
Then simply launch BasicColor Display and hit the calibrate button.
Sit back, sip your coffee and watch it do its thing. It'll take about 10ish
minutes.
I say sip your coffee because the new Sequel Instrument(Squid) might not be
the speediest of devices but it appears every bit as good as the EyeOne for
calibrating CRTs and LCDs.
