Registered Devices: scanner not listed ???

Recently I added a Nikon Coolscan IV film scanner to my system. I expect
to see it listed as a registered device under scanners in the ColorSync
Utility but it's not showing up.
Can someone explain if this is normal or if there is a problem.
System:
--Mac OSX
--Nikon Coolscan IV via USB connection
