Isn't it amazing that printers can no longer match the proofs they
could match two years ago. By using "standard"
color spaces or proofing systems one can faithfully print legacy and
separations done for a "standard" CMYK space. In design and prepress on
does not always no where the final job will be printing!
The computer to plate revolution is supposed to drive costs down, not
up. The computer to plate manufacturers and color management
professionals need to lead printers into using "dot gain managers" and
ICC profiles. In most cases, the printer needs to simply manage dot
gain in their RIP to get their plates back to where they were when they
used conventional work flows. By doing so. printers can be more price
competitive and they can capture more work. By not doing so, they will
drive customers away with poor quality or high prices.

The printer is using digital plating. They have adjusted their solid
ink
densities and curve shapes for their plating in such a way that they

unique. They don't match and "standard" proofs such as a Matchprint,
Fuji ColorArt, Dupont Waterproof, etc.
Given that they are so different from any proof anyone could get
outside
of their shop this would seem to be a problem for them to print
anything
that they didn't scan.
