Thank you for your response John.
Unfortunately when I launch ColorSync Utility I get a message that the
default profile cannot be found and then the app quits. So I'm in kind
of a catch-22 of sorts.
I have the profile located in
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays/iBook-42701C0.icc but I am unable
to select it in my Color Preferences (it isn't in the list). I ran
Profile First Aid and came up with the following errors on
iBook-42701C0.icc:
Header connection space is not correct.
Header data space is not correct.
Header profile class is not correct.
Tag 'gXYZ': Tag type is not correct.
First Aid wasn't able to fix these errors either. I had someone send me
the Color LCD-4270900.icc file from their iBook, and I placed it in the
Profiles directory and it does not show up on the list either. The only
thing in the list of profiles to choose from in the Color Preferences
pane is Generic RGB and sRGB. I can't really select either one, because
when I click on one I get a system beep and it won't update.
Since I have no ColorSync issues in Jaguar, I installed Jag and
attempted an upgrade install to Panther. The install fails out about
halfway into the second CD, and I have tried multiple burns of the CD.
(I have a software key with the Apple Developer Connection, and my disc
images came directly from the ADC site.) I guess that's another issue I
have is I can't do an upgrade install. I've got build 7A202 Panther on
there now, and it works fine, just an older build.
I'm beginning to think Panther is just put out with the old fruit
iBooks...and with the iBook G4s out now, it's hard for me not to think
the same thing...

Tangerine iBook 300MHz... factory profile cannot be found
Hmm. Maybe you can reset it to the factory profile using ColorSync
Utility.
Launch ColorSync Utility and go to Devices. Under Displays, there
will be an entry called something like "Color LCD", that's your
iBook's display. Select that. It'll show the name and path to the
factory profile, and the name and path to the current profile. Maybe
your factory profile is in the trash, or somewhere else unexpected?
Its usually in something like
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays/Color LCD-4279340.icc. Click the
triangle next to Current Profile, and select "Set to Factory". Maybe
that'll fix it.
