But as I played with the VueScan demo, I quickly got excited. That
simple-looking interface is actually quite functional and logical
(read: user-friendly) -- a big plus in my book.
I may find that the initial positive impression of interface fades with
use. There are lots of interactions between controls such that changing
a setting on one tab may well silently change the interface and/or
settings on another tab. At this point, I find the interface rather
frustrating to use. It seems more like a big pile of knobs and buttons
than anything with an interface design built around actual production
tasks. (Disclaimer: the author updates the program at least once a
week and it has probably been several months since I used it so who
knows what has changed.)
The only nit I have to pick is that the VueScan preview window does
not quite match the preview in PS7, though it's close... I don't know
if VueScan uses the monitor profile for its preview (which can be as
large as your whole screen, BTW -- very nice).
VueScan has gotten more ICC savvy recently but I've never trusted the
on-screen display colors. I queried the author once and got an
explanation that didn't make sense. Anyway, I haven't used it much
since it gained ICC capabilities so things may have improved.
