Any and ALL comments, please.
Help me out guys/[gals], I have a Phaser 7700DN on order (hasn't shipped
yet)
I am at the end of my rope preparing work and proofing on an Epson 9600,
only to have local shops using the large color copiers for short-run work to
deliver garbage. Usually the machine is not calibrated OR profiled. I when
"I" create a custom profile JUST for the job I am running, I find that the
'condition' of the machine is, itself, not good. i.e., colors match but
quality is not there. (Usually a bad drum or other internal parts
responsible for imaging)
Anyway, If one is in the market, today for a Tabloid Extra, Duplexing Color
Laser, is there a better choice that the Phaser 7700?
I will be rolling my own profiles with MonacoPROFILER and Eye-One and using
IQueue in front of the printer. Final files are almost always Source Program
>
PDF > IQueue > Printer.
I am trying to make sure I did not overlook a more capable device, for this
price range/workflow.
My objective is to deliver short run color, in house, that is an acceptable
alternative to a press-run. Also benefiting from a closed loop system where
the files, the color management, and the device are under my control and
finally being able to deliver exactly was was approved.
It's getting harder to explain why the final job doesn't look like the
inkjet proof. I now see, that if the final is going to be laser than the
proof should be laser. The added benefit is that when the customer says I
like this, you just print more of the same file on the same device, as
opposed to 'finding' and massaging another device [to death], for not.
So which device (laser) would YOU choose?
