If I was in your shoes I'd start first by evaluating critically what is the
meaning of the results your getting? Sounds to me like you are getting
correct Lightness mapping but, for some reason, can't get exact hue mapping.
That explains the traces of cyan in your solid yellow. Did you inspect your
profile in a 3D mapping software like ColorShop X or ColorThink? That will
immdediately reveal where the differences are and why the mapping is done
the way you're getting it. If your solvent-based printer solids don't fully
enclose your source profile you're likely to get the effect you describe.
