You mentioned "rasterizes in PS7 in order to send it to the RIP."
It's unnecessary to rasterize before the RIP. (The RIP's function is to
rasterize.) However, there are a few things to try. . .
1) Select All and run the Path Cleanup filter found in the Object Menu.
2) Make an empty box (no fill, no stroke) the size of the page to use as a
bounding box for the layout. Make sure to delete any elements from the
pasteboard (anything outside the page). This defines dimensions.
3) Be sure you have ALL the REAL fonts activated on the system(s) and that
they are healthy fonts. You may not be noticing substituted fonts. You may
need to outline fonts for a version of the file.
4) Flatten all layers. This sometimes simplifies the rip interpretation.
5) Select all elements and set attributes>output to the same resolution,
usually the highest of 9600. This normalizes attributes and sometimes
simplifies the rip interpretation.
6) Save as a new Illustrator file with a new file name. Then save as a new
EPS with the new extension. This generates a completely new file and
sometimes cleans up some PS code.
7a) or print to PostScript with the latest Adobe driver that the RIP really
understands. (This may be an older driver by now.)
7b) or get the page to a high resolution PDF version 1.3. This version is
common to most RIPS at this time, PDF 1.4 may not be.
Hope this helps,
