You are spot on with your description
of the new Apple 23. It does have somewhat of a gritty, granular appearance
that I personally don't like. Could I get used to it? Maybe. But if you
have a nice CRT sitting next to it it is "dissapointing".
While the best CRT's (how many are there
now?) are still better than the Apple LCD's, the Eizo ColorEdge is very
close in quality to something like an Artisan. I would suggest trying one
before you make your final decision. I was skeptical at first, but after
a few weeks there was no way I was giving it back to the sales rep. And
we were using Barco CRT's previously...
Bottom line is you will be thrilled
with the Artisan, but I really like all of the advantages LCD's have over
CRT's. The reduced eye fatigue alone is worth the monitor's weigt iin gold
(at least to these tired eyes!).
Good luck,
