Deep down in the archives there is a thread asking why the dickens there is no way to write into a profile the device settings for which it is true. Eventually a tag appeared in ProfileMaker where device configuration details could be annotated and the profile settings text file pasted in. But to the best of my knowledge even this is still proprietary tag in the world of the ICC Specification, though it is not a proprietary tag which in any way influences color matching.

The documentation level is one thing and the automatic configutation level is another. Except for monitors which are an all-in-one color device, metadata which impact device configuration are better treated apart from the ICC profile. There are many such metadata approaches, but they are conceptually distinct from the color management system IMHO. (And I still say the VCGT approach was a good idea, just not for printers -:).)

Thanks,
Henrik
