We are a commercial Printer in Texas. When we went ctp we also

Epson
are really close. But the press can't match our Epsons. Everything we
print
is too red. The pressroom runs the cyan densities high and drops the
magenta
densities really low, just to get close our proofs. So I'm thinking I
need
to tweak our Profile for the epson. But before I do that how do I know
the
press is printing correctly.
Good idea.
So I created a grey balance test. I gave the press room linear plates
and we
ran it to our standard densities. It is really red also. We even tried
a
different ink manufacturer and we got the same results.
Something doesn't sound right. Please answer the following:
What are your standard densities?
What are the values in your gray balance test for CMY?
What is dot gain for CMY?
What is print contrast for CMY?
What is your print sequence, and what is your wet trap for the three
overprints (RGB)?
Should the grey balance match exactly or should it be a little warm?
Seems to me it should match. Am I thinking correctly or am I just
dreaming?
If it should match, what do I do next?
You are not dreaming, you have good cause to be suspicious. The Color
Art represents generic press behavior so you should be able to easily
get the press in a condition with close to standard GRACoL ink
densities that would hit a Color Art. Now that you are CTP I would
propose that you optimize the press behavior to something more in line
with what it can now attain, profile that condition and then your Epson
10000 can be made to produce proofs based on actual press behavior
instead of generic Color Art behavior. Nevertheless, you should not
have this much difficulty hitting either a Color Art or an Epson 10000
proof that adequately simulates a Color Art.
