I had the same results you have Mike and I found two reasons for this "to
much magenta", but at first:
If your Epson Proofer matches the Fuji Color Art the proofer setup is ok. If
you proof the measurement chart you used for profiling for generating the
Fuji Color Art (or if the measuremnts are availible) and measure this Chart
you can compare both measurements and calculate the delta E.
Now the two possible reasons I found:
1. The used Magenta ink for press. The Inkmanufactures starts to use more
blueish Magenta. With this Magenta you have to reduce the Magenta amount for
a neutral Gray. One extrem I had with Hexachrome Inks where I had to setup
the 60% Gray to C= 60%, Magenta = 48% and Yellow = 56% to get a good Gray.
The Densities: C = 1.65, M = 1.45 and Y = 1.4
2. The screening
An Epson Proofingsystem normaly use dithering (FM-Screening) for printing
and for press you use AM-Screening. With an standard Proofingsoftware and
PDF Files the Gray was neutral, but with Best Screenproof and 1-Bit Files
(used for plates) the Gray gets red (like the press print). The CMM Setup
was everytime the same.
