| Yes, since the post I was responding to did not name the
printer by name in
| the body of the post, I was responding about a different
possible machine, not
| the R800, which as a consumer printer does not contain its own
microweave
| functions in the machine, but requires software implimentation
of them, like
| the
| 2200. Whether having previously supported the 2200 softweave
will be of direct
| assistance in supporting the R800 is the question. Since the
R800 is a letter
| size printer, and probably will have the short shelf life of
other letter/A4
| Epsons (typically measured in months, and with single digits) I
do not expect
| to see many of the serious RIPs supporting it. But when (if?)
this technology
| leaks into the Pro division, then support will be simple enough
for RIPs
| offering n-color support currently.

There are enough RIPs with n-color support for the "official"
n-color printers. It is a pity though that there's no n-color
support on any RIP for converted printers like an Epson 9000 with
Generations CMYKOG pigment inks. There certainly is an interest
in conversions like that. If Gimp-print gets its R800 driver it
would be nice when there's spin-off in n-color drivers for
"converted" printers. The flexibility of Gimp-print is already
proven with the Quad Tone Rip for B&W printing. Today I printed
the first test sheets on an Epson 9000 from a beta Gimp-print
port to Risc Os. That's the third OS to have Gimp-print running.
And the quality of the prints is excellent.
