CMYKOG has distinct color gamut advantages when dealing with images and
photographic work, depending on the workflow and the CMYKOG inks being used.
If the workflow is CMYK, then the gamut is already clipped, color data lost
and the resulting output when sent to a CMYKOG output device will suffer. In
addition, the use of the right profile (n-channel or Hexachrome) and the use
of a RIP that understands 6-channels to create output will show the benefits
of the CMYKOG expanded gamut. Further, the nature of the image itself will
directly affect the degree of benefit CMYKOG brings to the output. If the
colors of the image are in gamut for CMYK, yes, there will be little gain in
the output. However, if the image contains colors that are out of gamut for
CMYK, there will be noticeable improvement when using CMYKOG. There are too
many factors and processes prone to error that are involved in the imaging
reproduction workflow to make a blanket statement that CMYKOG offers little
gain.
