There are enough RIPs with n-color support for the "official"
n-color printers. It is a pity though that there's no n-color
support on any RIP for converted printers like an Epson 9000 with
Generations CMYKOG pigment inks. There certainly is an interest in
conversions like that. If Gimp-print gets its R800 driver it would
be nice when there's spin-off in n-color drivers for "converted"
printers. The flexibility of Gimp-print is already proven with the
Quad Tone Rip for B&W printing. Today I printed the first test
sheets on an Epson 9000 from a beta Gimp-print port to Risc
Os. That's the third OS to have Gimp-print running. And the
quality of the prints is excellent.
Gimp-Print offers a full raw mode, so as soon as I add support for all
8 channels (even if we don't use them yet), some intrepid hacker could
put an 8-channel front end on it. I do have the programming
information, so this is something I can do.
