I totally agree.
While I cringe at the use of the word "fingerprint" it is a fact that it existed long before ICC profiling (as a word use and as a process), it is in wide use today (when referring to pre-profiling optimization) and there's not much we can do about it.
In relation to the printing industry it seems best to avoid the use of the word fingerprinting when talking about profiling... not much more we can do.
