The instrument light/sensor geometry will cause less problems of polarised
reflected light than irregular surfaces. In rare cases where the pigments
create a crystalline pattern on high gloss surfaces this could influence the
results.
Traditionally the polarise filter was used for things like wet trapping for
press papers and rough irregular surfaces.
You can download the diagnostics tool from Gretag to check if the i1 is
running as expected.
If the blue component of the paper white is within a predetermined level PM
will not have the Optical brightener check box available when creating
profiles. Also , Spectral measurements have to be recorded, not Lab.
