exactly. And when Apple decides that all untagged data should be their particular flavor of Generic RGB and the rest of the planet chooses sRGB then the data displayed in Panther looks different from how that vast majority of others will see and print it. What's "correct" doesn't really matter here. You can argue till the cows come home how your Generic RGB and a 1.8 gamma might be "better" in this situation where as you say there is no right answer, but what we're all really after is consistency. Your system is a distinct move away from consistency and mindless color management, not a step towards it.
