A really smart press house could have it both ways. Optimize
their press in any way they please, to a repeatable running
condition that gives the best possible results. Profile it.
Using appropriate tools (I've got some :-), create a TR001/SWOP
to their press profile device link transform that preserves black,
and maps the gamut appropriately. Give their press profile to whoever
wants to do their own separation and proofing. They are now
set to accept work that is separated either to their particular
press, or is delivered in TR001/SWOP, and produce excellent results.
