Maybe. That is if they knew how to print to standards and THEN decided to exceed them. But my reality is trying to inch people towards a standard and then using process control to try and hold things there. Once that is achieved, only then can you decide to exceed the standards.

To some, "standards" implies lowest common denominator printing. This may generally be true of SWOP/TR001 but not of the relatively new GRACoL/TR004 (actually Draft or DTR001). Most every printer I've been to would do well to consistently hit TR004 let alone exceed it. The alternative is the relative chaos we have now with "every man for himself" printing conditions.

In a closed-loop environment this approach is possible, maybe even desirable, but today's reality is decidedly NOT closed-loop.
