David, my comparisons can hardly be called scientific or in depth. Of
the currently available products I have used the EyeOne Photo,
basICColor Display with the EyeOne device, and the newest Spyder2PRO. I
purchased the EyeOne package since I needed a device and one must buy it
with software. The other two I have been trying essentially as a beta
tester. I have not tried any Monaco offerings.
One wonders in this age of accurate hardware calibration <G> how there
could be differences in the results, but there are.
Right now I'm leaning towards the Spyder2PRO. I intend to do more
testing with basICColor and will be interested in an apparent new
version. The EyeOne Photo results, while good and initially impressive,
seem least accurate in displaying important shadow info from softproof
to print by comparison.
In fact, that shadow representation seems to be the biggest difference
between them all, with the Spyder2PRO striking the best balance so far.
More testing to do, but it has to wait while I do crap I can invoice to
someone.

...I wonder if any one out there has done a
comparative review and analysis of available colorimeters
(spectrophotometers too).
