A couple of things to add:

1) Since the "color-matching" processes of these RIPs use no ICC profiles - what are users sending to clients in place of a press/target profile?

In the case of GMG, there's a couple of things you can do:

1) Export the measurement data from their "Profile Editor" and use it to build an ICC profile using ProfileMaker or Monaco Profiler.

2) Measure a standard IT8 or ECI2002 target in Measure Tool and then import the measurement data (as Lab) into GMG's Profile Editor. That's the process I use. You're using the same data to build your ICC profile as you're using in the RIP.

2) In doing some testing here with Oris I found their deltaE numbers to be rather "optimistic". I took the same measurement data into Measure Tool and found that I had not improved at all over my current proofing scenario (comparing measurements of TC3.5s and IT8-7/3 from press and proofer). Anybody else done similar comparisons?

Actually, I have and I found similar results with GMG. The delta e reported within GMG was up to about .5 delta e "optimistic" compared to Measure Tool using straight delta e. But compared to the other ICC RIPs I was comparing to, GMG still proved to be better. One thing that may be contributing to this is that GMG tosses about 200 patches or so from the standard ECI target so it's not measuring from the same number of patches that I was using with Measure Tool. Did it toss 200 of the more difficult patches? I'm not sure.

Cheers, Terry
