Gariba + Jim,
The EFI Colorproof XF is a total re-write of the product as a client/server
configuration. The soon to be released XF is for PC platform with OS X
version is to follow shortly thereafter in probably Q1. Each runs in
'server' mode on a computer you can stick in the closet and the user can use
either a Mac or PC to run a client app to control the server app.
Differences will be transparent to the user as they would use the same app
to control/configure either server version they decided to purchase. Product
ships in a base configuration that drives a 'medium' printer. As you add
options and functionality, you just pay as you need them and you get
different license codes from EFI that you install in the server. With the
way they've redone it, you're able to get do whatever you want to do - do
the heavy file processing on a PC that you hide somewhere and have a Mac
user interface for operator config if that¹s your preference. Also, wizards
for paper linearization, ink limiting, printer profiling and profile
optimization are all available in the client app.
One last thing...anyone at version 4.something should look at upgrading to
version 5.0.1 as for limited time it includes a free upgrade to XF. It's
supposed to cost more (to upgrade from 4 to XF) after XF is released. More
