I've encountered something today that I've never seen before, so
perhaps some of you have experienced this and can shed some light on
the subject. I was sending a test file from Photoshop (PhotoDisc test
image) to a client's Epson 5500 using basic (read: Same as
Source/Automatic) color settings. Generally this results in color that
isn't too awful, but not exactly accurate...but still pleasing What I
got was downright dreadful...very washed out with posterizing and color
casts galore. Now when I choose a provided Epson profile in Print with
Preview and shut off color management in the driver the color looks way
better (if not a tad warm). I've never seen the Automatic setting be so
off before...and this is from multiple machines (a Mac and a PC) both
printing from Photoshop CS. The hardware all checks out fine (no nozzle
clogs, brand new inks), and according to the client this behavior
started "all of a sudden".
Any ideas?
