I too have noticed a sudden "ugly printing" phenomenon with my Epson

and my OS 10.3.8 box at home. I haven't printed in about 5 months and
suddenly I get horrible prints. The heads are all clean and all colors
are
firing correctly. I work with Epson's at work but with 3rd party
rips,so I
assumed something happened to the printer driver or print engine in
one of
the updates. It looks like it did "in the old days" when I tried to
color
manage in OS 9. Now I am looking at spending a fair amount of money on
ink
and paper trying to figure out exactly what has changed and how to
make it
respond the way it used too. (I hate wasting paper and inks and have
this
down to a fairly good science. I am baffled at this.)

Sounds exactly like my situation. I hardly ever print to the Epson
driver using its color management, favoring the conversion in Photoshop
for obvious reasons. But the Automatic setting shouldn't be this bad. I
was somewhat baffled as to why this client's printer suddenly started
doing this. And printing from a Windows machine is totally bizarre when
trying to use the built-in Epson color profiles. Still haven't figured
that out...ICM indeed!
Glad to hear I'm not alone...and if you ever figure it out I'd love to
hear about it (as would the rest of the color community).
