I have to agree with Jim on this. Even making multiple huge moves on 8
bit images output to LVT, no signs of dreaded banding anywhere. On
other types of images, if banding occurred, it was there on the 16 bit
version as well. Digital captures seem a bit more delicate due to the
lack of grain and scanner noise, even they work fine in 8 bit. It
certainly can't hurt to archive a 16 bit version for some future use,
but it's hard to imagine outputs getting so much better than they are
already that it would make a visible difference.
