This is the reason why it is so difficult to compare. First, everyone
has to decide by him (or her) self what the main focus will be.

Look at it from another point of view. The european/german
organisations FOGRA, bvdm and ECI, which are mainly involved
into the research of all that Process Standard things and the resulting
ISO 12647 worldwide norms, have a big problem:
The Delta E ab is the only one that can be used in juristic way to
judge color consistancy. It is a fact that Delta E 2000 or CMC
or something like that is more sophisticated, but no court in the world
would accept it, because they are not fixed in an ISO norm.

In September, some of the above mentioned organisations will do the 5th
independent proofer competition.
Yes, we are back at quote one: the focus is proofing.
You can find some information in english here:
http://www.digitalproof-forum.de/en/index.php
The summarized results of the competition 2004 can be found here
(sorry, only in german, but not my fault;-(
http://www.digitalproof-forum.de/pdf/DPF_2004_Gesamt.pdf
Just a brief description of the results:
The first big block is a measured result (Delta E ab) of the FOGRA
mediawedge (see www.medienkeil.de),
which is nowadays used to proove color consistancy in proofing process
standards.
The second big block is a visual rating of the results. This maybe more
important to the photoprint fraction.
Some translations:
Mittelwert - mean deviation
Bunttonfehler - hue error
Farbe - color
Sonderfarbe - spot color
Farbmanagment - color management
Verlauf - gradiant
Auflösung - resolution
Fehler - error
Druckbeginn - printing start
Druck fertig - final time
Hope this helps to get started, and we are looking forward to the
results in september.
