Michael,
The way the final print will be viewed is probably most appropriate way
to measure. If that is with another type of paper or board in back of
the printed sheet, then that's how it should be measured for greatest
accuracy. All that being said, if one does not know how the final print
will be finally displayed, its probably good general practice to
measure with another sheet or two of the same paper in back.

When measuring various

paper is sitting on has a strong influence on the resulting
measurement.
I’m using a Spectrolino with UV filter and Gretag MeasureTool. For
example, I get a different reading when measuring a piece of paper if
it is
sitting on some Bainbridge Pure White mat board (nearly neutral) vs. on
some
Epson Premium Luster (more blue) vs. on my desk top (dark reddish brown
wood).
I also recall that when I
purchased the Spectroscan table
which I use for profiling, there were two options: one with a white base and one
with a
black base. I have the white base.
So, is there a standard
for what the paper being measured
should be sitting on?
Thanks,
Michael
