The targets that were used had been optimized for the pigments that
were known to be in these particular paintings. So using a different
target or different materials in the painting changes the success of
the results.
I apologize. I mixed up studies when I made this statement. In the
experiment that is being discussed here, the ColorChecker and
ColorCheckerDC were used. There is a related project in MCSL
investigating the optimization of targets to obtain better spectral
reconstructions. I thought at first that it was incorporated into this
experiment, but it was not.

However, the target used will still make a difference and it will still
be a long time before we see any of this stuff commercially. Sorry for
the confusion...
