Sorry, Klaus, but your naming conventions don't include the things
that I need to see. Marco hit on it - K generation, TAC, etc. There
could certainly be a tagging scheme in profiles to carry a lot of
this information - just take a look at PerfX's profiles. They've got
some pretty cool data in there.
I think the original issue is that ISO didn't underwrite or endorse
any of the FOGRA/ECI efforts. I don't suppose any of you would care
to have your corporate identities associated with someone else's work
- in fact that'd be copyright infringement. If the ISO title is
involved, then the ISO has an obligation to police the effort for
quality, et cetera.
Rolf, I'm sorry, but at the moment the "ISO" characterization efforts
ARE European. Take a look at the names involved in those efforts.
Henk, since ECI is European Color Initiative, why is that preferable?
Again, I say the "ISO" efforts ARE European. The split of the globe
seems entirely appropriate to me, with the exception that China will
soon warrant their own slice, too.
I don't understand the rejection of the title "European" in favor of
"International". Europe is comprised of many nationstates - isn't it
- ergo the word "Europe" is international by necessity. It's just not
global.
Why is FOGRA39 not FOGRA27 redux or version 2. Isn't 39 supposed to
replace 27?
Marco, you're on board for a "central repository" and naming
conventions, et cetera - does this mean we're now all in favor of
Tagging files. It wasn't all that long ago that right here we had a
long thread about whether or not to tag files going out. That's what
I'd like to have enforced. Just tag the files!!!
Doesn't seem like such a big task for the ICC?
Right after gamut definitions?
The only person who can do a good separation is the person who
knows the
characteristics of the press, paper, and ink.
So I ask...Should the photographer make a separation?
When did it become the photographer's job to do separations?
Who has all the information to do a top notch separation? Is it the
photorgrapher or the printer?
What happened to the prepress house and their highly skilled scanner
operators and separators?
Well put, Ray.
They founded a guerilla group fighting against photographers and
creatives doing their work in randomly chosen CMYK spaces ;-)
And finally, back to Klaus - I'm not sure if I've been lumped in with
the good guys or the bad guys.
If the creatives of the world would simply tag everything, then they
wouldn't have to worry about what CMYK color space I'm using. I'll
take care of it - really.
By the way - it's FUBAR. }:-{>
