Beats me as to how they can adjust (presumably up or down) the black levels
on an LCD. The way I understand LCD technology, assuming CCFL, all lights
emanates from a back light which is modulated by twisted nematics crystals,
which works as shutters. In a fully "twisted" or rotated state, the crystal
form an effective barrier to light coming from the CCFL. I don't see how NEC
could have devised a separate control for further blocking all light from
the CCFL but, if they succeeded in doing so, it will be interesting to see
how low they managed to drive it down, in quantitative terms -- less and
0,30 cd/m2?
