Off this subject, but the mention of "UV" made me think of something that's
been troubling me for quite some time. I'm using the XRite DTP 70 for my
profiling. I was doing some routine maintenance on the device and noticed
that the UV switch on the scanning head was in the OFF position, even though
the default configuration of this device has it turned ON. I have no idea
how many hundreds of profiles have been made like this. My understanding is
that this UV filter is especially important when scanning papers with
optical brighteners, but does anyone know if this has much of an effect when
scanning most commercial offset matte and gloss printing papers? Any adverse
effects?
Thanks,
Bob

The Z series printers are said to have the same iSis head in the
UVcut mode.
I'm sure the portability is a concern for many on this list.
The designer of the iSis tells me it is much better suited for
transport with it's solid state light source than, say the DTP70.
I've been taking one of my DTP70s with me to 2 or 3 cities a week in
a hard case for about 15 months with no problems so far. Fortunately
I have two so I can regularly compare measurements to the stationary
unit in my studio. XRite's repair group is quite surprised to hear
that I haven't had any problems with the mobile unit yet.
On the other hand, the first iSis that I received a few months ago
was dead on arrival, so it sounds like gathering more user
experiences would be a good idea.
