After seeing the interesting comments about the PRMG ICC profile method, it
might be of some interest to point out a feature of the GMG ColorProof
suite.

One option in GMG is that it that provides the end-user the ability to
SCALE rendering intents from the perceptual intent to the relative intent
incrementally. This scalable rendering intent is an interesting feature
that is integrated with device link profiles so that you can use the
iterative approach for profiling printers in an RGB workflow.

And while GMG is (rightly) considered a prepress proofing rip, this RGB
workflow option is an interesting wrinkle for RGB workflows because you can
use for example use an Adobe Working space as your target and then do
iterations (with prints from your printer) to that target to create a device
link profile. Of course using ICC profiles are an option in Color Proof.

I am assuming that a few other rip products can do this, but this is one of
the only products that I know of at the moment that has scalable rendering
intents and that uses the iterative approach. I hope others will chime in
if there are more rips that can have this functionality.
