Yes; I use an ordinary i1 Display for calibrating projectors (since
GM won't let me use my i1Photo without paying them an extortionate
amount for turning on its ability to do this, as well as buying the
Beamer hardware).
I sellotape the i1Display to the top of a tripod, put it next to
the screen (about 6") at about 45 degrees to avoid its own shadow,
and plug it in to the laptop controlling the projector. Gives very
good results and is a great way of showing an audience what
calibration and profiling can do for projectors and monitors.
I've just tried calibrating an Acer projector with a Huey sensor.
It's a bit tricky to hold the sensor such that it is pointed towards
the projection area but not measuring its own shadow and reflection.
I got widely different results holding the sensor at different
distances and angles from the projection screen. It also seem one
should hold it parallel to the screen. Things improved with
increasing distance but I am sure there is an optimum. During the
first couple of attempts the Huey software failed to create a profile.
