ProfileMaker is out of my price range for now and I think i1Match may
be as well. Do they offer an evaluation period that I don't know
about?

An overview of profiling packages on the Hutchcolor site makes a
similar point about Monaco scanner profiles:

"Monaco scanner profiles seem a tad more accurate than GMB in
shadow areas (not so prone to over-saturation), but they are
intent-sensitive. Converting to working RGB from a Monaco scanner
profile can blow out highlights if you use Perceptual, and can look a
little dark if you use Relative. (This of course can be adjusted in
Photoshop.)"

Out of curiosity, I made some profiles from the reflective targets and
reference files that Robert Rock posted to the list recently, then I
calculated DeltaE. Profile Mechanic had real trouble with the
Hutchcolor target even if I increased smoothing to "heavy" in the
preferences. It was the only profile that was obviously unacceptable.
