Yes, it is pretty interesting - try it out! You can do what you've described with several colorimeters and packages if you have a long enough cord.

I've also been able to point it toward a screen from 20-30 feet away, just like I would with the beemer. A dark room is critical since the focus isn't as tight as with the beemer.

Either way, this technique is definitely monkey business, LOL! Fun for us geeks but not recommended for the casual user...
