...SilverFast's profiles, more than others, are dependent on the "correct" gamma setting for the scanner, and it's not completely obvious what that is. In the Mac Life test, gamma 2.0 (film scanner) and 2.4 (flatbed scanner) worked best, but I don't know if you can make a general rule out of that. In any case, avoid gamma values > 2.4, as SilverFast's profiling option obviously does not like them....

interestingly, after considerable testing, the lower gamma settings gave the best results with the i1 profiler as well, for transparencies on a Howtek. Tyler
