Ah, so would a 5000 K illuminant be preferable to a 6500 K illuminant
when building a single-matrix (i.e. "Both Color Tables") profile? (If
there was any hint to this effect in the DNG Profile Editor tutorial,
I overlooked it.)
So the closer the actual illuminant is in spectra to one of these
3, the better it is when scene-referred colorimetry is what you're
trying to maximize accuracy over.
OK.
Obviously, a fluorescent bulb would be a poor choice to use with
the DNG Profile Editor.
Not if you're planning to shoot regularly under those lighting
conditions!
Yep, of course. I was thinking of a general purpose profile when I
wrote that.
But your comment evokes an interesting question:
Let's assume I want indeed to build a profile specifically for
shooting under that Home Depot compact fluorescent "warm" bulb (~2850
K).
So I use such a bulb for the 2850 K matrix.
But what should I use for the 6500 K matrix in this case? A 6500 K
flash (smooth spectrum) or some kind of compact fluorescent "cold"
bulb (assuming I'll get one with ~6500 K)? Or does it not matter at
all because only the 2850 K matrix will actually be used in this case,
anyway? (Obviously, I cannot optimally use a single-matrix profile,
because as you wrote, this would use 5000 K, not the 2850 K I'm
looking for.)
Bye
