You keep repeating the same attitude: if I disagree with you, the
only thing that comes to your mind is that this must be because I
did not understand something.
The difference is, when I and others disagree with you, we supply
references and facts.
You do and I don't? I described my procedure at least roughly so far.
Apart from ridiculing it, you haven't provided an alternative
suggestion.
You haven't as yet done this.
And Chris suggests I shouldn't.
Sorry, this whole thing started with a long post of mine that supplied
several facts. I have supplied more facts in a German publication you
cannot understand which isn't my fault. I was nice enough to offer a
translation, but you cannot expect me to do that in no time.
I'm hardly infallible but I do listen to those who have a bloody
clue, some of whom have asked you to clarify your procedures (to be
ignored)
I'm not aware I ignored anyone's question in this thread.
but instead using this list because you like the sound of your own
voice.
You can easily see from the maclife.de thread that I basically posted
one mail per month for several months to inform the list about new
issues of the Mac Life series, and then maybe replied to a few
questions. I did this because I learned in the context of another
(rare) post of mine that there was some interest in this list.
The whole thing only exploded when in my last review summary, I
mentioned the name of Adobe (I surely wish I wouldn't have). Adobe
played a completely negligible role in the original review; it was
probably mentioned only once or twice as one of the several RAW
converter manufacturers, which were not the focus of the review. From
this thread you would think it was in the center of the review - again
the "hub of the universe" effect. I certainly didn't ask for that, but
I tried as best as I could to reply to each question, only find myself
accused now of misusing this list to make my voice heard and, at the
same time, not answering questions.
When you launch Lightroom for the first time and choose to export
some (previously added) image in TIFF format, Adobe 1998 is
suggested by default. Of course you can select another space instead.
Its sticky from last use.
There is no last use when you launch Lightroom for the first time.
And as Bob pointed out, you once again failed to even READ the
bloody instructions
Default values in applications have nothing to do with documentation.
You also seem to misunderstand the differences with Export and Open
in External Editor.
How so? What's to understand here? Clearly, if I want to use a target
image for profiling, I do *not* want to edit it. Therefore, "Open in
External Editor" would be the wrong choice, or the GUI is poorly named/
conceptualized, which, of course, could be the case.
You are correct that for "Open in External Editor", the default is
indeed ProPhoto.
One is setup via preferences, one is setup based on whatever export
presets you may have selected (so there are NO defaults). And as
mentioned, Adobe clearly indicates which encoding color space is
recommended, something you missed. No, Adobe RGB (1998) is not
suggested.
My testing was focussed on what is actually coded into the
application, not on recommendations in some manual.
But this is another completely meaningless argument. Of course I
checked internally if results would differ if I used another color
space such as ProPhotoRGB. The differences were completely negligible.
I will now try and spare you my voice until my English review is ready
and not reply to mails from you anymore until then.
Bye
Uli
