Implications?
TIFF is a robust file container for image data. Kind of like PDF is a robust container for other data. I don't understand your question. DNG is based on TIFF/EP. Adobe owns and controls TIFF, like DNG, an openly documented file format. It can store raw data and lots of other useful data (DNG profiles as an example).
This is getting a bit OT, especially for the CS list. I'm not sure what DNG has to do with the discussion but it's just another file format storing data.
