Begging the question, why calibrate and profile the display in the first place?
Color numbers can produce incorrect color previews, that's either an issue to resolve or it isn't. Heck, I can do a ton of work in Photoshop on a grayscale display! When time comes to soft proof or make important decisions on color and tone, I want the best calibration and profile that are built to match to my output under my print viewing station next to the Mac).
